I don't know what status you're talking about, but about
'read/unread': in general I try to keep as few as possible 'unread'
mails in my message base. So this would be nor argument for me ... But
maybe we're to different in this point.

1.) Why does Eudora reports error when importing a mail containing
    BadTrans? Or is this to be more precise an Antivirus-Software denying
    you to transfer these mails?
2.) Why don't you simply delete the mails containing BadTrans? IIRC
    these mails don't contain anything else but this virus, so you
    wont loose really much (but win the jackpot of minimizing the risk
    for an accidentally infection, IMHO)
