I played around a bit, but also couldn't find a common denominator. Sometimes adding a single linefeed after makes it go away; sometimes, before the first line; sometimes both; or not.
Like you and Carren point out, it's more of an intellectual curiosity to me at this point. In my case, I just found the whole thing humorously ironic, and that it wasn't just me.
