What gave me a good start are the FAQ pages provided by the support list run on yahoo groups. It's a big and busy list so though I am subscribed I have disabled receiving both messages and digests. I'd go to the FAQ first, since you'll definitely need a helper if you have no networking background (don't worry, I didn't either when I started using it).
