For an FTP server, I'm currently using WAR FTP (www.jgaa.com/) -- this is bulletproof freeware even if the docs aren't complete. For FTP clients, I'm using a very old version (1.8) of Cute FTP, supplemented by Blue Zone FTP (www.renex.com), which I got free, although I had to register. I can recommend both. Blue Zone is the more reliable since Cute FTP cannot "see" some files on remote Unix servers. However, Cute FTP is the easier to use and offers more functionality.
