The alternative is one of the very small email clients such as Popcorn (about 250K, which runs from a floppy disk, and will allow you to access your pop mailboxes directly). Sending depends what restrictions your ISP has on relaying mail. (Popcorn has vanished from the developers website [www.ultrafunk.com] after they stopped development but it may still be available from Tucows, etc. It is also small enough to email!)
