If it contains no word wrapping (line breaks) in the original text
then it's just wrapping at the window boundary to help you read it.
That doesn't mean it's wrapped.

Yuck!!! Please do NOT do that here. It is an quoting practice known as
"top quoting" that has been made popular by the Microsoft email
software and creates hard-to-follow replies with too much retained
text.

What works best(*) is to do as I have done here - to quote the message
text then work your way through, deleting superfluous commentary and
interspersing your own comments.

* I accept that there are some business circumstances where you are
forced to "top quote". I urge you to adopt this conversational reply
format in preference wherever possible.

S> Now, the ORIGINAL message shows NO word wrap whatsoever, it's just
S> loooooong lines of text - is that normal???

Yes, if that's how it started out.

There are some quick templates that, when strung together can help you
auto-wrap quotes.

S> Then, my second problem: whenever I exit THE BAT, it takes about 3

All messages you receive come in through the Inbox. All messages you
delete (or move, or filter) from the Inbox leave a "marked" vestige of
the deleted message text. Compressing will reformat the TBB file to
finally exclude these deletions from the mailbase.

Even if you don't do it on exit, you should do it once in a while.
