Greetings Deborah, On Wednesday, August 28, 2002, 5:27:58 AM, you wrote: Deborah> We just got a laptop computer & have started to use it for email etc. Deborah> Small problem with the dial-up connection. Next time I go to Deborah> dial-up, the password box has about six characters more than my Deborah> password & the connection is refused. Have tried resetting it several Deborah> times. Any ideas? Using W2K. Not sure why your dialup setting is not retaining the proper password however the password display (i.e. ****************) will always display more or less asterisks than your actual password (I believe Win2k defaults to 16). The issue is not what you see displayed in the password field pertaining to the number of asterisks but why the password is not PROPERLY retained. If you see ANY asterisks in the password window then Win2k has retained a password legitimate or not. Maybe someone will have an answer for you. A place to start looking at is: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=saving+dialup+password+win2k&btnG=Google+Search Seems many are experiencing the same issue but it's been years since I had the need to configure a DUN connection under Windows 2000 Professional, Server or Advanced server and unfortunately I have not one system here that even has a dial-up modem (at work nor at home) to assist you in debugging this issue.
