It's not more and more, but the percentage is rather constant.

Some threads are disturbed by people using other mua's, because
they're reading half of their mail during working hours with another
client or because they've got problems running TB and want to solve
that via this list.
There used to be problems with list members reading the list in
digest, but with the mime digests the individual msg-id's are being
sent along, so that should be a thing of the past.

Two options.
Set threaded view to view on subject, with the apparent disadvantages
of that, particularly on busy threads.
Or export the message to *.msg, include the references header manually
with a text-editor and you're done.
