Just a thought for you guys who don't like the "flying beastie"!
Why don't you just set a sound alert for your different mail accounts?
I never use the mail ticker because it annoys me, but I have a
different sound set for each account (and for some individual
folders). That way I know instantly when I have mail and who it is
from. I guess if you get lots of mail it might be annoying - but it
works fine for me.
