Okay, so here's the scoop about the jumbled letters: I searched the Internet for newer video card drivers and the only one I found was one that was slightly newer than the one I already had installed. Since I had tried all other options, I decided that downloading and installing the drivers was my last and only hope. After installing, I opened The Bat and (surprise, surprise!) my compose screen finally works! It looks and acts exactly the way it is supposed to. I am writing this message and actually seeing what I'm typing! So I guess the drivers *were* the culprit after all. Okay... I'm keeping TB for sure now. ;-)
