If I want to update my version of TB on my laptop, this is the process
that I use:

1. Run stage 1 of the synchronisation on the laptop, remembering to
select all the required folders and address books. This creates x.TB1

2. Run stage 2 of the synchronisation on the PC, using x.TB1 from the
laptop. This creates x.TB2.

3. Run stage 3 on the laptop, using the x.TB2 created on the PC.
This updates the laptop.

If you want to copy mail from your laptop back onto then PC, then you
do the same, but start with stage 1 on the PC, stage 2 on the laptop,
and stage 3 on the PC.

The other thing you could consider the first time is just copying the
mail folders or using the backup. I am sure that I have done this in
the past, but perhaps someone else can confirm that copying across the
/mail directories works. This should give you an identical mail base
and settings, which you can then change as required. It makes
subsequent synchronisation much easier!
