Yes and no.
I'd like to have the same behavior as you describe, but I don't think
the current implementation is wrong. The function is called "mark thread
as read" (don't nail me on the exact words, I'm to lazy starting wine
and searching for the correct words) and the functionality both of us
(and maybe and uncounted number of other people out there) would like to
see is "mark _sub_-thread as read" ... A significant, three letter,
difference :-/

I guess the best thing is to submit a "Wish list item". Simply follow
the link added by the list server software.
