SmartTabs is a different feature. If you type a line of text, then jump
to a new line and hit the tab key with Smart Tabs enabled, you'll see
that the cursor is placed at the start of each new word in the line of
text above. This makes it easy to create lists or tables.

TB!'s editor doesn't support true tabs. As a result, text pasted in with
tabs will have the tabs converted to spaces.

Yes. It will do this upon sending.

Yes. So if you wish to send text unchanged in these ways, then it would
be best to send the text as a plain text attachment.
