Deleting the messages.tbi file worked fine and everything is accessible once again. > I strongly recommend to *everyone* here not to use an account inbox > as a mail store - get those messages into other folders now. My batgroup account is set up only for messages from the group - no other mail goes to it at all. I retain messages for a maximum of 31 (I used to have it set on just a couple of days but this mucked up threading and there was a suggestion to the Group to retain messages for at least a month as most threads will complete/die in that period.) I have my Folder options set to remove old messages and compress folder on exit (so it happens at least once a day as I am on dial-up and the computer is shut down every night). Any messages of special interest are copied to a separate "Useful BAT Info" folder which is compressed on each exit but not purged of old messages unless I do it manually. If I move the received mail into another folder as it is received and read won't this: (a) cause the Bat! to have problems with threading once again as newly received mail is in the Inbox and previous mail in the thread is stored elsewhere, and (b) the new folder will be subject to exactly the same pressures with exactly the same amount of mail passing through and stored in it - i.e. from Inbox - hold 31 days - Delete old mail and compress on each exit? For all of my other accounts I move completed messages (i.e. read and replied to) into a common Stored Mail Folder (I have 4 different ones to cover different subjects). These folders are also compressed on each exit and I cull them manually from time to time to remove items no longer wanted. I generally only ever have e-mails awaiting reply (perhaps 1 or 2) and newly received (unread) mail in my inbox. -- Bob Mois Thursday, 23 October 2003 Using The Bat! v2.01.3 on Windows 98 4.10 Build 2222 A ________________________________________________ Current version is 2.01.3 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
