Hmmm...I went in and set everything to plain text then responded to a list message.  
Below is what appeared on the list.  Please note the stranger characters in the sig 
and in the part staying whom I am quoting:

What is odd is that I looked at my reply and I can't see where the characters are 
coming from.  That is, in my reply my signature is:

And that is all there, so where are the characters coming from?
