The more I think about this issue, the more dissatisfied I get with The Bat. A VERY common feature request for TB has been to allow for Subject line editing. Lots of people have asked for this. I made this point before. Some people (on this list) use a script to export the message, change the subject line, then import the message again. How people who have the sophistication to perform a task like that will put up with it in a commercial e-mail product is beyond me. Can you imagine if we had to perform *filters* that way? You want to move that message to another folder? Well, first export it to a text editor, make some changes, then import it back into The Bat. Geez, Louise! There has been no response as to *why* the Memo field is treated differently in searches. Or why the interface doesn't indicate this. Frankly, I'm a little surprised this Memo field issue hasn't been brought up more. It really does hamper an otherwise excellent Search feature. The developer's response to not being able to change the Subject line has been to utilize the Memo field. This wasn't ideal, IMO, but it was a reasonable compromise. I preferred the ability to change the subject line, but I wanted to make TB work (and there was not indication that Subject line editing would be a feature added anytime soon). So I started using the Memo field regularly. I even got used to it somewhat, using shortcuts and viewing that column in message views. Users are (presumedly) asking to change the Subject field for reference and filing purposes. Considering that the Memo field and Subject field cannot be searched on together (messages would have to contain search text in *both* fields, not either), just how useful is the Memo field? How can I group messages within a search by subject if some of those messages needed subject changing (and had subsequent Memo field entries). You can't search on Memo *OR* Subject. If I want to group messages together using the Memo field, I have to make sure EVERY SINGLE MESSAGE has the search text in the message field. Ugh. Despite my complaining, I really do love The Bat. After using Outlook and Outlook Express for years, I have come to appreciate the power and flexibility of TB. But I also realize that I get very attached to software sometimes, especially if it meets a great many needs and I get used to it. I will put up with little quirks and idiosyncrasies, jumping through interface hoops to get what I want because I like using the app. But at some point, I have to ask myself: am I being too demanding of my "favorite app" or too lazy to learn a new one? Reading the recent thread about PocoMail has me thinking... I need to check PocoMail out again and also give Becky a try. I'm stubbornly staying with 1.62 for now - too many bugs show up in posts here to the list. I know problems happen, but there seems to be major things that just aren't getting addressed. I can't help but get this strange sense that RitLabs just isn't listening... -- Ken Green Using The Bat! v1.62r on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 ________________________________________________ Current version is 2.02.3 CE | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
