When I switched over to saving attachments to directories I wrote a filter
that would save the old existing attachments out for me. I don't remember
all the specifics but I think I was able to get my old mail moved over.

It was a bit annoying though, and on many occasions I wish we had more
access to the format TB uses for data files. Indeed, one 3rd party
developer has been able to reverse engineer this stuff in a commercial
application, but he has decided his knowledge should not be public.
