See my other post, but if you're into programming you'll come across the
concept of a 'modal' dialog.  Such a dialog is *designed* to elicit a
response from the user to exclusion of all else in the application.  It
appears this concept is heavily misused - probably because it makes the
programmer's life easier without users trying to click on things that
would upset the dialog.
