Dear Joseph, @28-Feb-2004, 11:19 -0600 (28-Feb 17:19 UK time) Joseph N. [JN] in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] said to Mark:
MW>> Shouldn't this be in the FAQ by now so we can just put it to MW>> rest? JN> No, it shouldn't. See, in particular, the responses by Allie JN> <mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and Frank de Bruin JN> <mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, both of whom mention in JN> more detail than I did the particular advantages of NNTP for high JN> volume lists like this. and (in Allie's case) the disadvantages too. Carsten pointed out gMane. The last time we went anywhere near that, 4 people were so disgusted they threatened to leave the list. One left instantly. Although newsgroups have their benefits, I'm still reluctant to reflect the list that way while there is strong resistance. I don't see anyone threatening to leave *unless* it becomes a newsgroup or gains a newsgroup echo. So a mailing list it will stay for the present and for the foreseeable future... -- Cheers -- .\\arck D Pearlstone -- List moderator TB! v2.04.7 on Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 '
