I have read up to this paragraph and I will not proceed any further. You say that it is _irrelevant_ that your last backup was "late summer 2003", more than 6 months ago. I don't know if it is irrelevant, or not. What I know, and I am positive about it, is that if email is _so_ _important_ to you and you haven't backed up in six months... your are plainly and simply stupid.
