Hi List,

My IMAP folders are not acting up nearly as much these days, but I'm still having some
trouble. One account has stopped retrieving new messages, although the correct number
shows up in the folder view (under the unread heading, it right now shows "28<*>"). I
have been playing with settings, so I have no idea what may be wrong. I can always
create a new account (that has worked in the past), but I would like to figure out why
its not working. As I troubleshoot, it has become clear that I lack some basic
knowledge about what TB! is doing.

What, exactly, is synchronization? My guess would be that, as an example, if changes
are made to a folder (not by my copy of TB!), including the arrival of new incoming
mail, those changes would not show up on my copy of TB! unless I synchronize. If I set
it to synchronize, the new is not retrieved.

In account settings, I can set TB! to 'check mail' periodically under the options tab,
but the new mail is not retrieved when manipulating this setting either. And in the
IMAP fine-tune tab, I can set it to 'when online, refresh folders' periodically as
well. Still nothing. Then if I right-click a folder in the folder view, I can set
various 'synchronization' settings. Is it that the 'refresh folders' setting indicates
the frequency of synchronization?

While no permutation of these settings seems to retrieve my new mail, I am not so much
looking for suggestions on how to resolve the problem (creating a new account will
work), as detailed information on what the various settings are intended for.

Thanks.
