Allie Martin gave me the following advice on about the same problem.

I have just solved my problem, which turned out to be 65000 tmp files
in a tmp folder I didn't knew existed. It was located at the path
c:\Documents and settings\<my login>\Locale settings\Temp\
and the files was named bat*.tmp

Now I've created a batfile, which I've placed at
c:\Documents and settings\<my login>\Locale settings\
which contains the line
del Temp\bat*.tmp
I've set TheBats scheduler to run it once a day, so now TheBat cleans
up after itself.

(note: I use a danish Windows 2000 so "Locale settings" is translated
from the danish version, and may have a different name in the english
or other versions.)
