I had Generic View Mode enabled. So I switched it to No View Mode. As I tried to tell above, this change simply serves to Refresh the setting behavior back to my preference--which all the time remains properly ticked in the drop-down menu. Switching between Generic View Mode and No View Mode causes the same behavior as switching between Received Time and Created Time. I tried it again just now, moving between the tbudl folder and the tbot folder.
