It's that you came to the discussion of them a little late (not your fault). The smileys were an innovation of one of the RitLabs programmers (9Val) that he worked out in his spare time. They turned up first in beta versions of The Bat! Then, Leif Gregory extended (with 9Val's help) the code until it could show pictures (Roguemoticons) in the headers. This is pretty easy for everyone to do now (with a little help on tbudl) and it turns out that many of the most serious, dedicated, business-oriented users of The Bat! find this aspect an asset. If you went to C:/Program Files/The Bat!/Images in your Windows Explorer, you would see two files: Default--if you clicked on that you'd see some image icons that you could click on to see what smiley goes with that .gif extension. default.msl--this would bring up a list in Notepad that had between colons at the end of each line the "handles" or "nicknames" which when typed would each be replaced with the image associated with it, for those using RTV (rich text view). I'm not telling you about this because I think you have time to do it. I just thought you might want to Park this information for future reference. :) PB> It's a great discussion my friends, and I have followed it with PB> interest, and will continue to do so, but I'll bow out of trying to PB> use the things until they get just a little more user friendly. We're hoping to get them so in a future release of The Bat! However, those two files that I just told you about are the ones that RitLabs sends with The Bat!, when people download and install it. Now, the ones that you see on this page, http://www.PCWize.com/thebat/PCWSmileys.php these may feel a little more complicated to you to install and use. That's because we really are still developing and testing this page. Leif writes the code. I try to watch out that uploaded images don't get us into copyright trouble. And people who are using smileys (anyone who wishes to) offer new images there from time to time. PB> Kind thanks to everyone who answered my questions as I struggled to PB> get it sorted. If you had been able to follow the threads as the entire thing unfolded over the past few months, it would feel less confusing to you. :) Meanwhile, just remember that if you type a colon followed directly by a parentheses-closed symbol, I will see it as a tiny round smiling face. :) I'm truly glad that at least we get to see you in our headers! -- Best regards, Mary :Mary: The Bat! 2.12.00 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 1 ________________________________________________ Current version is 2.12.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
