That little yellow circle with a checkmark indicates that the message
has been signed using either S/MIME or PGP/MIME.

To do this, you'd have to have PGP or GnuPG installed and working, and
then enable TB! support for them. You can then sign using the Privacy
settings in the editor.

For PGP/GnuPG, you'd have to create a set of keys to sign with. For
S/MIME, you'll need to get one created for you through one of the
certificate authorities.
