That is just plain wrong, Anthony.

I just posted a similar mail to TBBETA (if you're receiving the beta list

Short summary:

PNG is optimized for images with *low* pixel randomization (screenshots,
web graphics). JPG is optimized for images with *high* pixel randomization
(scans, fotos - that said, if you have a photo background for your desktop
and make a screenshot of your desktop, it will be smaller as JPG, of
course).

Make the test yourself: create a screenshot of TB's message window, save as
PNG with maximum compression, then save as JPG with 85% quality.
