So the above command will only work on drive L:.  Am I correct is
assuming that  if the procedures described below doesn't cure the
problem, it will not peripherally affect any other partitions on this
physical drive?

I have SpinRite 4.0.  I haven't used it for a looooong time -- to
refresh drives, not to recover data.  

SpinRite doesn't seem to be a utility to fix partitions.  Would you know
whether it might cause problems for other partitions?  My primary
concern is messing up any of the other partitions without fixing drive
L:.

And when SpinRite "recovers data", does it  maintain the original
directory structure?
