In Transport for the account:

 - Set SMTP Server to smtp.gmail.com
 - Set SMTP Server Authentication to Perform SMTP Authentication (RFC
2554) and check Use settings of Mail Retrieval
 - Set Connection to Secure to Dedicated Port (TLS), port 465

 - Set Mail server to pop.gmail.com
 - Set Mail server authentication to Regular
 - Set User to your Gmail user name (just the name, not the full
   e-mail address)
 - Set Passport to your Gmail password
 - Set Connection to Secure to Dedicated Port (TLS), port 995
 - Set Protocol to POP3

See if that works. I don't recall any message about a certificate.
