Never done something like that, but .tbb files are basically text
files with some odd codes to separate the messages, so a
straightforward search should help to find it.

What happens when you move an unreadable message to another folder?

What happens when you export one of them:
  Tools -> Export -> *.msg
and import it afterwards?
  Tools -> Import -> *.msg

If the latter sequence still cannot be read, then you've got an easy
target for your WinHex.
