Cheap media? Bad recorder? Both? German magazine c't has had some great articles on reliability of CD/DVD media. Bottom line: there's no real reliability, especially true for recordable DVDs. I couldn't read most of my Verbatim CD-Rs from 1996 any more in 2003.
