You assume wrong.  The backup function has never worked particularly
well for me because I use TB on 2 computers.  For that function, it
has worked better to simply periodically copy the mail folders from
one computer to the other.  On the rare occasions when I've had a
problem, I've been able to copy over the entire program and registry
from the other computer.

I have now tried that. I went to my notebook computer (the one with
working TB) and I exported the registry to the desktop and installed
it and I copied over to my destkop computer my entire TB folder except
for Mail and Attachments to my desktop computers (didn't want to copy
over Mail folders as the notebook computer has some "gaps" in some
mail folders as the desktop has a more complete set of my mail).
After doing all that...TB still doesn't start on my desktop computer.
