That makes sense to me. (An interesting side note: due to the standard
method of encoding attachments, an encoded attachment is typically
about 4/3 as large as the original file.)

Yes, it will. However, you lose a bit of the linkage between the
e-mail and the attachment. I know that in previous versions, deleting
a message with and attachment stored in an external directory did not
delete the attachment as well. This may have changed. Can someone
else fill in the details?

If unchecked, right before the message is sent, The Bat! will open the
attached file and encode it. Any changes you make between attaching
the file and sending it WILL be sent. If checked, The Bat! will encode
the file the moment you attach the file. Any changes you make between
attaching the file and sending it WILL NOT be sent.
