All well. But: > Looking at the "Description of selected component" it says > "E-mail Scanner scans incoming and outgoing e-mail" and "E-mail > Scanner is active". One has to wonder if that line "scans > incoming and outgoing e-mail" is descriptive or if it is showing > some Status for the component, as well. Clicking on the component > brings up the dialog box for said component. From there it is > revealed that, yes, "Scan outgoing messages" is unchecked > (disabled). So why is AVG interfering? It is configured to > IGNORE checking outgoing mail, yet it seemingly does check these > messages (and fail on some occasions creating stuck messages with > TB). I just found out: Disabling "Scan outgoing messages" from AVG itself won't matter. Something else might have been set for the "AVG for The Bat!" "Virus checking Plug-In", you see... If "Check outgoing mail for viruses" is checked (Enabled) in TB's Preferences (-> Protection -> Anti-virus), well, then it is ON; Enabled and utterly Active. I have finally (I hope) got this one Disabled! Actually: It seems that users would stay pretty safe if Disabling "Check incoming mail for viruses" PROVIDED the following is ENABLED: "Check attachments for viruses before opening them from The Bat!" "Check attachments before the user saves them to the disk" To me it seems that Disabling "Check Incoming" is safe by the very fact that one can't really do any access to an attached file unless the two "Check attachments" have been running. I see one potentional risk here as far as Virus checkers go: If you do a scan of your computer, your Anti Virus program might try to look into your mailboxes (.TBB). If an attachment hasn't been put into Quarantine, but still exist in full code inside the mailbox, your Anti Virus program might want to Quarantine it itself. And it might try quarantining the ... ooooppps! ... entire mailbox! Hence, make sure your Virus checker is told to IGNORE the folders/directories where your mailboxes reside when it is Scanning your computer. Use at your own risk - as for opening attachments, rule #...1 applies: Do not open ANY attachment you receive UNLESS it is expected (or makes sense in your communication with the Sender) or !!!at least!!! comes from a secure, known and trusted Sender. But back to TB: My opinion that TB should protect itself from malfunction Plug- ins apply - TB got to have a Time Out Protection - I would like to escalate my suggestion to be valid for both incoming and out- going message - in fact ANYTHING that is passed thru a Plug-In where TB is supposed to resume control after the Plug-In has finished its task. I have also found some suspecious and very similar behaviour with "Incoming mail". The behaviour is that the problem is also there for "Incoming mail" - and bugs TB big time. Anyone having problems with TB hanging while downloading mail while AVG for The Bat! is used as a Plug-In? Bonus Question: Do one actually need the Plug-In if AVG itself is fully Enabled to look after your mail sending/receiving? -- ...listen2reason... - Musaic.Net <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ________________________________________________ Current version is 4.0.24.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
