IT is a problem everywhere and but the argument used against strong planning authority
is... it un-democratic and driven by socialist. No one who knows me would ever think
about calling me a socialist. Good planning and good government promotes good
democracy... the biggest problem is the negotiation process is unbalanced by a large
distortion in the money/power/information triangle! Communities like Eden Prairie have
unsustainable status quo mind set and they like it! If they did not, democracy and
planning might work very nicely in the Twin Cities! One thing is certain, things will
change. If you look at the information objectively, it is bad. But our cities, states
and federal government have to figure out quality of life is better than quantity for
our nation's GDP! I worries me that some people think businesses and individuals are
smarter or more productive than our government. The proof against this is in news!
My experiences in Iowa City have taught me that planners are a weak part of the
process because of politics. I am a person who
believes information is more valuable than money or power but information is dependent
on money and power! I agree the Met council has a major problem with community
autonomy. We need leader that works together.
