Highly unusual early spring flood runoff for Red River
Red River Grand Forks, ND / East Grand Forks, MN
by Pat Neuman, Hydrologist (personal effort)

Snowmelt and 2-3 inches of rain last
weekend (March 27-28) in North Dakota
and Minnesota led to this unusual early
spring flood event.

Daily flow at East Grand Forks, MN / Grand
Forks, ND yesterday was one of the top three
highest daily flows of record (101 years) for
this early in the spring season (March 31st )
at the river gage (Table 1).

This event was especially unusual in that the
heaviest runoff within the Red River basin
occurred downstream (northwest) of the gage.
