I am perfectly capable of leaving Saint Paul, but I choose not to,
and I have chosen to stay here every time I think about it for the last 19
years.

Why?
I can walk around the lake (Como)
Go to the zoo, visit any number
of really good different restaurants, go to interesting shops and get my
kids a good education. (My eldest is at Princeton. Graduated from Saint
Paul public schools )
The residential architecture is unique and interesting
Urban gardens are beatiful in our neighborhood
The streets have full grown tree cover
The people are friendly and helpful, and come in a great variety.

I am also safer here, because suburbanites are in more physical danger
from the extra driving they do than urban people are from the slightly
higher crime.

Another nice thing about living in the City is that any time I want to
visit a place where the houses are all alike, and the people are mostly
white, where you can see great distances without trees in the way, where
'Going for a walk' means walking in a circle on a cul-de-sac or down a
busy road, where I can watch kids riding bikes in circles in their own
driveway because there are no sidewalks, where I can go to one big-box
chain store after another, then I can always visit a suburb!
