Once upon a time, I thought I would be a viable candidate for supervisor of
the technical writing department, if my supervisor decided to leave the
company or was promoted to another position.

When my supervisor left, it was just as they were planning a department
reorg. The tech writing unit was dissolved and the three remaining writers
disbursed among various business units. So much for my dreams. In
someways, I wonder if the dissolution of the department was also a comment
on management's perception of my supervisory skills. No one will say. I
guess that speaks volumes.

I am a lone writer now. But now I get to do all those things that were
lacking when there was a tech writing unit -- develop style guides, research
trends, write training materials, document complex systems. So, in a way, I
didn't make out too bad.
