I've discovered on-line maps to be very unreliable when it comes to lesser-traveled roads. For instance, when I lived in Monroe, Louisiana, I took back roads to my hometown in Arkansas-it made sense when you looked at the AAA map. However, when I tried the same thing on an online map system, using roads other than Interstates or 4-lane US highways, it plotted a circuitous route that would have tacked on an hour and one-hundred miles to my trip. Mind you, this was a 1 hour and 45 minute, 103 mile trip.
Unless I'm traveling to a city that's on a major Interstate or US Highway, I double check the online map with the most current manual road atlas.
