> Isn't the TCP site looking for articles right now?

Yes, they are, but my article was rejected because it doesn't fit in
with the "punchy" tone that TCP is trying to set (I think that's a new
way of saying "This is dull!"). :-)

So many people say that they hate indexing, but it doesn't have to be
that bad if you know what you need to do. I can't begin to count the
thousands of pages that I've indexed over the years (through my regular
jobs and freelance opportunities), and I always enjoyed doing it because
I knew how to create and organize the index entries.

I think that a good index is just as important with electronic
documentation as it was in print. Users can't flip through online help
they way they would through a book, and searches just don't cut it
sometimes. Sometimes you can search repeatedly for key words that you
just KNOW are in what you're looking for, and you still can't get to it.
Give your users at least a high-level (or quick-and-dirty, as I called
it in the article) index so they can use it as a starting point if they
choose to.

I may add some FrameMaker-specific information to the indexing article,
too, or create a separate page for it. Tools like IXgen can make the
task a lot easier because you can see your entries and changes on the
fly.

Gee, is my passion for indexing showing? :-)
