Your boss, like your customer, is not always right, but is always boss. I have always encouraged people working for me to challenge my thinking as I approach a decision, but once the decision is I expect a good faith effort to implement it. On the other side of this, I have left more than one position because I found myself in unresolvable diagreement with a boss over something I believed was *that* important.
