Just want to thank everybody who chimed in in response to my query regarding buying a new laptop. I appreciate you taking the time and giving the question some consideration.Will certainly report once I make the purchase. Once I saw Allen's introduction, thought I should properly introduce myself. I spent about twenty years developing technical documentation (software documentation and specs) as well as user documentation and some instructional design materials , most of those years spent in the NY metro area working for financial services firms. Moved to the Albany area of NY in January 2002, and took a hiatus from tech writing while I home schooled my son through the final years of high school and worked part time in social services. Now that he is in college I am returning to technical writing, and also considering a Masters in Human Factors (one of the technical communication offerings at RPI). Wishing you all a happy 2008.
