If you are doing an "Update list of packets in real time" capture, this
might just be the result of an Ethereal 0.8.18 bug; try upgrading to
0.8.19. (Even if you aren't, due to a related bug, 0.8.18 defaulted to
non-promiscuous mode captures, so you had to explicitly select
promiscuous mode; upgrade to 0.8.19 anyway, even if that means you have
to install from source.)

In addition, given that you've sent this to tcpdump-workers, one
suggestion (a suggestion often given for capture problems in Ethereal,
as it helps isolate the cause of the problem) is to try tcpdump/WinDump.

Note, though, that the tcpdump that comes with RH 7.1 may *also* default
to non-promiscuous mode, so you may have to give it the "-p" flag to
*enable* promiscuous mode.
