It looks as if, on x86 boxes, the CONFIG_X86_TSC has to be enabled, in
at least some kernels, in order to get high-resolution time stamps.

TSC stands for "time stamp counter", which, as I remember, was
introduced in the P6 processors (Pentium Pro, Pentium II, Pentium III),
so that option works only on machines with those processors.
