Position:            ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

                                Department of Anthropology and Sociology

                                Saint Mary's College of California

                                Full-time, tenure track, beginning Fall, 2006

 

Qualifications:   Saint Mary’s College of California invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track assistant professor position in sociology to begin in the fall of 2006. We seek candidates with teaching and research interests in the areas of poverty/stratification (primary) and gender/sexuality (secondary).  All applicants must be able and willing to teach theory and methods (qualitative and quantitative). Strong preference will be given to applicants with Ph.D. in hand by September 2006.

Responsibilities: Contractual responsibilities are equivalent to seven (7) courses per year. Typical teaching load is six (6) courses and one course reassigned for dedicated work with students. All faculty regularly participate in our two core liberal arts programs, the Collegiate Seminar Great Books Program and the January Term. Promotion and tenure are based upon teaching effectiveness, scholarly achievement, and participation in departmental and college service activities.

Salary/Benefits: Salary range for the 2005-06 academic year is $52,689 (Assistant Professor, step 1) to $57,575 (Assistant Professor, step 4).  Within this range, salary will be determined by prior experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance; incremental tuition remission available to eligible employees; generous vacation, holiday and leave policy.  TIAA/CREF retirement program after one (1) year of service and age 21; immediately if one (1) year of prior employment at an institution of higher education is completed.
