Associate for Contemporary Immigrant
Perspectives
The
Lower East Side
Tenement Museum is seeking a full-time Education
Associate for Contemporary Immigrant Perspectives, who will report to the
Education Director. S/he will be responsible for: helping to promote dialogue on
contemporary immigration-related issues; incorporating the diverse perspectives
of contemporary immigrants into the Museum's programming; and constantly
striving to make the Museum more accessible to and relevant for new
immigrants. S/he also assists the Education Director in raising
awareness among Museum staff about various viewpoints on issues related to
contemporary immigration.
Responsibilities
include:
- Coordinate the Kitchen
Conversations dialogue and Dialogue on Diversity programs;
- Coordinate the Shared
Journeys English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs;
- Coordinate the Windows of 97
art installation program and corresponding public programs;

Assist
with marketing and fundraising for above programs;

Represent
the Museum to funders, press, artists, exhibitors, and others as
needed;
- Facilitate education programs
for learners of all ages;

Participate
in weekly Education Department and staff meetings;
- Assist with
planning/developing other education department programs and projects; and
- Serve as Tour Coordinator on
Saturdays.
Required
Qualifications:
- At least three years work
experience, preferably in a non-profit organization;
- Interest in immigration,
familiarity with contemporary immigration issues, and sensitivity to immigrant
concerns;
- Interest in and commitment to
dialogic learning and civic engagement;
- Extremely detail-oriented and
organized;
- Ability to take initiative
and work well both independently and in a team environment;
- Excellent written and verbal
communication skills; and
- Excellent interpersonal
skills.
The ideal
candidate would also have the following:
- Some supervision
experience;
- Experience with public
speaking;
- Experience as a dialogue
facilitator;
- Experience with ESOL
education, ideally as an instructor;
- Some experience with art
administration;
- Knowledge of MS Word, Excel,
Power Point, and Outlook; and
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin,
Cantonese, or Fukianese.
