My students really liked a book by Edin and Kefalas, Promises I Can Keep, Why Poor Women Put Motherhood Before Marriage, based on 162 in-depth interviews over a five year period in several racially diverse neighborhood in Camden and Philadelphia. Lots of quotes and a story that is outside the experience of most students at my university. A nice fit with videos like "Legacy" and "Let's Get married."
