I will give a longer response :-) later. Do not over look the strengths
that you bring to the
classroom with your background in another social science. Some of our
best sociologists such as Skinner
are also at times called psychologists When ever I taught psychology I
have found that those texts were much
better organized than sociology texts. They treated social science as
a science....... you also bring that. Your background
experimental...... or testing will also serve you well

I suggest you avoid lectures have the class work in groups and use
materials such as

Discovering Sociology:Using MicroCase ExplorIt 2nd Edition | Steven E.
Barkan | ISBN 0534587437 | © 2003

Discovering Sociology:Using MicroCase® ExplorIT (with MicroCase:
Statistical Analysis for the Social
Sciences Passcard) 3rd Edition | Steven E. Barkan | ISBN 0534617328 | © 2006

One advantage you have as a "non sociologist" is humility.... Often
sociologists know so much sociology
that they feel obligated to share it ....... that leads to the transfer
of information.... not learning.

There will be speculation about what you know .... and more that can
over shadow the fact that you asked for
help..... Since every class is a journey...why not ask the class for
their help that is needed to make the journey
a rewarding learning experience for all of you....... I have found that
when given the chance students have much
to contribute...

Also, look into portfolios as an alternative to exams....this will make
the learning accessible to a very wide
spectrum of learning styles.... also promote ownership....... you can
also explain how this is an example
of social justice in the classroom....... because it recognizes
diversity.... and does not limit success in the classroom
to the chosen.

You should have fun..... all roads are good roads.
