Hi all,

I just had a very strange experience with my Android Acer A500 tablet with
capacitive touch screen. The screen became unresponsive and erratic.
Sometimes it wouldn't respond to touches at all. Sometimes it would act like I
did a long touch. Sometimes, it would seem to react in a delayed manner.
Scrolling an email list, for example, would be very jerky and painful.

If you're interested, here is a cool touch screen tester. Some of the
reviewers mentioned ads, but I didn't notice any. The app does require network
communications in the permissions disclosure. But, it seems to work well.

Using the tester, I confirmed very erratic operation with the device sometimes
loosing contact with my finger during rapid operations.

Now, I'll admit that there were a number of fingerprints and smudges on the
screen. I cleaned it with a microfiber cloth and alcohol, and washed my hands,
and that SEEMS to have cleared up the problem.

I never expected a bit of finger oil to keep the thing from working at all.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? I guess I'll have to clean it
weekly when I compact the email database and backup the apps.

Yet another reason that I don't want a touch screen laptop.

Sincerely,

Ron

Please excuse my potential brevity if I'm typing on the touch screen.

(PS - If you email me and don't get a quick response, you might want to
call on the phone. I get about 300 emails per day from alternate energy
mailing lists and such. I don't always see new email messages very quickly.)
