Hi Charles,

I've been observing the hobby but haven't jumped in yet. I flew conventional
model airplanes for a short time and soon determined that I didn't like the
mess of fuel based engines and also that I didn't like the idea of wrecking a $
150+ plane. Quadcopters are really cool in that they're sometimes cheaper and
are generally electric, which helps solve those problems.

The HAK5 vidcast / podcast has been doing a number of episodes on the topic.
You might want to check that out. They call them drones as well as quadcopters.

The control systems on these things are almost totally insecure, and Darrin on
the podcast has demonstrated that he can easily drop one of these out of the
sky with simple jamming. There has been some discussion of this on the DC404
mailing list.

There are also a number of places you cannot fly them. They talk about that on
one episode and give some references.

But, overall, it sounds like lots of fun.

I've been spending my discretionary budget lately on Bluetooth speakers. I
hope to do a review of some on my blog.

Sincerely,

Ron
