Bought a Hubsan X4 H107L from Amazon for, like, $40 (

Flight time is about 10 minutes for a 30 minute charge. I have 2
batteries. So far I've had about 4 sessions with it. Flying R/C is way
harder than sitting in an aircraft. But the
machine is small and slow enough to fly indoors, and I've had a lot of
fun running it into walls, floors and furniture.
Anyone else done anything with R/C flight?
I used to fly R/C planes. The day I finally did my solo, I flew it into
a bunch of trees and haven't fixed it yet. That was probably 10 years
ago. My instructor had just discovered he had terminal cancer and I
didn't feel like breaking in a new instructor. He was really the only
instructor in the club.
I have an electric helo but it's very difficult to fly. I haven't
broken it yet, but I don't land it, really, it's more of a semi
controlled crash. I agree, Cessnas and Pipers are far easier to fly.
I flew a helo in an AF simulator once. I'm glad it wasn't real. Need I
say more? Transitioning from flight to hover is very tricky and borders
on art. I've got to believe it would be nearly impossible to learn to
fly one using a simulator. Its not seeing as much as it is feeling.
Much like flying a full size aircraft. I know what to do based on feel
as much as sight.
Jim.
